Kenneth Baskin’s 20th Century Artifacts find
their inspiration in mechanical objects; these
industrial roots are a starting point for
explorations of form, motion, and humanity in
the Technological Age. In their abstraction and
familiarity, instability and balance, they are
reminders of the conceptual sophistication that
can inhabit the ceramic arts. Goldesberry Gallery
will exhibit Kenneth Baskin’s industrially-
inspired, intellectual, abstract ceramic
sculptures for the month of April, opening March
27 from 6-8 p.m., through April 24, 2010.
In November of 2009, Baskin’s 20th Century
Artifacts were featured on the cover of Ceramics
Monthly magazine. Baskin serves as a professor
of ceramics at McNeese State University in
Louisiana, and holds an M.F.A. in ceramics from
the University of South Carolina. He is a
recipient of the National Council on Education in
the Ceramic Arts Emerging Artist Award, and
has recently returned from a solo exhibition and
artist-in-residency at the Yingge Ceramics
Museum, Taipei, Taiwan. He has worked,
exhibited, and been collected nationally and
internationally.

HUMBLEBAEK, DENMARK - This spring’s major
exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern
Art centres on colour: colour in art, in the
world and in the eye. In words, pictures and
through interactive programes the exhibition
will present the ways in which artists
throughout the twentieth century either made
use of colour as a medium of expression or
researched it to find new colours and colour
systems. On exhibition through 13 June, 2010.

Multi-talented artist,
Tony Bennett is the
chosen artist for this
years Jazz Fest
poster.
Grammy-winning jazz
legend, Tony Bennett will
be part of this year's
New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival —
but not in his traditional way.
A portrait Bennett painted of his late friend
and fellow jazz musician Louis Prima is
being produced as this year's official Jazz
Fest poster.
The festival's official poster dates to 1975,
when the first one was produced as a fifth
anniversary fund raiser for the nonprofit
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.
Many of the early festival posters were
abstracts. But, for more than a decade
now, most have been portrait-type
renderings of such performers as Fats
Domino, Professor Longhair, Jerry Lee
Lewis, Harry Connick Jr., Pete Fountain and
Wynton Marsalis.
The poster is sold during Jazz Fest, which
runs April 23-25 and April 29-May 2.
